Mets pitching ace Tom Seaver impressed fans and management alike during the 1969 season, with 25 wins, and his first career Cy Young Award. The Mets posted 100 wins and defeated the Atlanta Braves for the National League pennant. In the 1969 World Series the Mets were heavily overmatched by the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles succumbed to the Mets in just five games, and the Mets ended their first winning season with a World Series title.
